A Boston tax-consulting firm represented by SRBC’s William Boesch has prevailed in a fee-dispute arbitration against the defense contractor Raytheon Company, winning an award of $1.13 million. The dispute arose from a contingent-fee agreement between the consultants and Raytheon, under which the consultants examined Raytheon’s recent state income-tax filings to identify overpayments and opportunities for refunds. Raytheon subsequently obtained a $17 million refund in the state of Kansas, and the parties disputed whether the consultants should be given credit (and thus a contingent fee) for having identified the Kansas refund opportunity. After a week-long hearing, a panel of three American Arbitration Association arbitrators decided the matter in favor of SRBC’s clients. |
