Widmaier M. Charles concentrates his practice on business disputes, insurance and reinsurance, and real estate litigation.

Prior to joining Sugarman Rogers, Widmaier served as a law clerk to Justice Ariane D. Vuono at the Massachusetts Appeals Court, where he assisted in all facets of appellate practice, including reviewing trial records, preparing bench memoranda, and drafting decisions on civil and criminal cases.

Widmaier began his legal career as an assistant attorney general at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, where he handled civil rights cases and defended state agencies, officials, and employees who were sued in state and federal court. He also served as a special assistant district attorney at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted cases involving drugs, assault, domestic violence, and motor vehicle infractions.

During law school, Widmaier served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Mary K. Ames at the Suffolk County Superior Court. He was also an associate member of the New England Law Review.

Prior to law school, Widmaier obtained his real estate broker license and worked in the commercial real estate industry. Widmaier’s civil litigation experience, coupled with his professional background and undergraduate education focused on real estate and business, allows him to better understand and serve his clients’ business objectives and legal needs.

Widmaier is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and New York. He also serves on the Board of Editors of the Massachusetts Law Review.
