Christopher Hunt, Sugarman Rogers’ director of technology and operations, presented during the annual International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) conference. He previewed the soon-to-be-released ILTA Technology survey, which will provide detailed results to help drive internal support for technology investments. Chris joined other law firm leaders to discuss the vital input from over 530 law firms nationwide. He was quoted in a Law360 article touching on the importance of these upcoming survey results. (Subscription required) In his presentation, Chris reviewed the latest legal industry trends in adopting cloud platforms and technologies. He detailed the increasing participation among law firms, eroding roadblocks and resistance to the cloud and explained that every new project offers an opportunity to evaluate investing in cloud-based systems. Additionally, he spoke on staffing, office applications, and unified communications. Chris touched on the continuing struggle around roles that can be performed remotely or hybrid, which positions must be in-person, and the importance of providing a healthy, positive, and engaging working environment. Across the board, firms are adopting the subscription-based Office/Microsoft 365 model, and by this time next year, the vast majority will have abandoned the perpetual-license model completely. Perhaps the most surprising finding from the tech survey is the significant increase in the adoption of Microsoft Teams and Zoom as unified communications platforms, replacing traditional telephone systems. This recent speaking engagement follows Chris’s long history of service to ILTA. He is serving his second two-year term as a director-at-large after serving as secretary of the board during his first term. He is also the board liaison to the 2022 tech survey committee. Chris was previously a planning committee member for the association’s most prominent educational event, ILTACON, and served as co-chair for its 2017 and 2018 conferences. With over 20 years of legal technology experience, Chris leads Sugarman Rogers’ technology and operational functions, working closely with firm leadership on efficiency, process improvement, and data security. ILTA is an international organization comprised of law firms, legal technology professionals, and law departments of all sizes and practice areas. Their 25,000+ members share a common need to access the latest information about products and support services that impact the legal profession worldwide. Read more on their website. |
